Hello all E Type enthusiasts
this site is all about the real original E Type tool roll. There was a continuous change in the Jaguar E Type tool roll. First of all, there has never been a metal tool box in any E Type. All were supplied with a proper roll as a container for the tools.
The 61 supplied tool roll were very much alike the XK 140 and 150 tool kits, but missing the BSF nesting box spanners. Later some alternations were made regarding the small tommy bar, box spanners, screw driver and also some brand changes for the open ended wrenches and 4″ adjustable. A design change occurred to the DUNLOP bleeder tin.
Since I have my E Type, an early 4.2 I am searching for the right tools, jack and owners manual.
There are lots of specialists out there, trying to sell anything as right original. authentic tools but only too often is turns out to be the wrong one. Sure I have payed a lot of money for “rubbish” but I felt really good when I bought it. Later I felt bad having been trapped.
Reproduction, fakes and not model corresponding tools are sold for a lot of money. Do not get me wrong, reprodution, indicated as those are fine. It gives you an idea of how it was and might fill a gap in your roll, but eventually we all want the tools belonging to our car.
Hi – I thought I’d visit the real experts for E-Type tools. My own E-Type is an early 4.2 Series 1 from October 1964. I live in California now, but was born in Sheffield England. When I discovered what “SSP” actually stood for I became quite keen on sourcing original tools instead of reproductions. I know from the limited research I have done, that this is a complex undertaking and requires significant time. Thank you for specializing in this! Cheers, Dave
Looking for a nice clean original tool set for my 67 series 1 OTS.
Thanks
Hello,
I have recently purchased a 62 FHC original RHD Series 1 E Type,
All she is crying out for is an original tool kit, Jack, owners manual.
Can you help ?
All the best,
Adam.
I have a 1966 e type roadster S1 and am looking for a full tool kit ,do you have and if so how much
Hi, very interesting (and important) website. I have just taken delivery of an unmolested 1967 S1 FHC which came with the original tool roll. It has the allen key with a pointed end that isnt mentioned in the parts book. I see the photo of yours also has the same key. What was it used for, do you know?
Kind regards
Angus
Hello Mr. Angus Moss,
thank you for visiting my site.
That particular allen key was initially provided for the 3.8 model to adjust the hand brake. The “pointed” head is for easier access. I think round ’64 they introduced the self adjusting handbrake and the key became redundant.
For some reason Jaguar continued to supply this tool until there were no more left but was surplus.
Strange that you found that in a ’67 car. By than they did even replace the adjustable, brand of OE spanners and valve extractor. Could be that someone filled it up, or replaced the roll.
You can find the key in the spare parts book of the 3.8 model. Where the tools are listed.
Kind regards
PS. Nice car, I am looking for such a project.
