Some additional information on Box Spanners

Throughout the years I have sighted about 50 original tool rolls, The majority had the end marked all 6 inch long box spanners. BUT I have found also several rolls which had a different set of box spanners, center marked and the smallest of them was only 5 inch long. As such rolls were confined and approved original 61 roll, I am listings those box spanners als as original equipment for the early Jaguar E Type. As far as I have discussed it with Roger Payne, we can confirm that the center marked spanners, which were identical to the XK 120/140 and 150 were also supplied until December 61 for the Jaguar E Type.

From the box spanners I have seen, I know that not all are interchangeable. If you do not see them stacked, they might not fit in each other. So better make sure you buy then in a stacking set rather than 3 individual.

Always ask close up pics of the sizes, from all what I have seen, there is no variation in type or style. It might only vary slightly from the impact of the printing tool. Very often you see repro with different writing.

The box spanners are among the hardest item to find and therefor the most expensive tools.

We have to have 3 nesting 6″ box spanners and one spark plug box spanner

  1. Maikel, I’ve been chasing a box spanner set for a long time & have decided to buy a reproduction set while I continue my search! Do you know of any sellers of decent quality reproductions? I’m reluctant to buy a set on eBay because of past bad experiences with poor quality or simply wrongly described tools. Thank you for your very informative site; you’ve saved me from making a couple of bad purchases and informed me on the accuracy of what I should be looking for!

  3. Hi there, I have already bought from you via eBay! However, I am nearly there with a complete Series 1 toolkit now. Can you help me please? I need a full set of box spanners. I also want to purchase a tool roll. I have a repro one which is one compartment less than it should be!

      thank you for your purchases on eBay. I can confirm you have bought great items.
      Regarding the box spanners and roll, I am afraid I can not break a complete set.
      You might be thinking of selling your collected tools and buy a complete one from me.
      Then you are also sure it is correct, complete and matching. Could sell those items weekly but they are almost impossible to find and then they are also very expensive.
