There were always 2 tommy bars supplied with the large S1 tool kit.
C. 2896 Tommy bar long 9.5″ long was supplies right from the beginning until about late 60’s. So same number and design throughout the entire S1 production but also until late S2 E Types.
C. 34 Tommy bar 6″ long and tapered. Supplied only for the first year production up until December 61
C. 20825 Tommy bar short, replaced tommy bar C34 by December 61 and was not tapered but cylindric all the way. Same 6″ length.
The original tommy bars were all forged and easy to recognize by the two little noses underneath the mushroom head.
Important to know that the E Type was the only Jaguar which ever contained a cylindrical small Tommy bar. The tapered 6″ tommy bar was similar to the earlier XK120 – 150 models. Several other UK cars did have small Tommy bars but were longer or different head.
The 9.5 larger Tommy bar can be found als in MK tool boxes.
A big thank you for all this valuable information. Have a nice day. Lebroc (from Switzerland) E.Type 3.8 l / 02.1964.
