This XK 120 roll is the same Canvas type as it was used for the prewar SS 100 model. In it you find the same shorter Superslim British Made OE spanners which were equal to those used for the MARK V which was build until 51. The MK V was the first JAGUAR with the tool kits in the doors. To fit all the tools, Jaguar ordered on special request the shorter SUPERLIM spanners which were also available in a standard size but did not fit. At that time Jaguar had planned only a very small number 240 cars with Aluminum Body . For that quantity it was not necessary to order another longer type of SUPERLSIM spanners. When in 1951 the MK 5 production stopped and the highly demanded XK 120 steel body was introduced, it was no need anymore to continue the special order short SUPERSLIM and I would think, that when finished the short stock the longer standard length would have been ordered. This is my theory supported by common sense and Sir Lions drive to save money. Apart from that you have the early feeler gauge with only 2 sizes, the seven box spanners of which the 3 nesting AF box spanners were continued also for E Type until 12/61.
